Gospel <\/u><\/strong>       <\/strong>Matthew 21:23-32<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/em>Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ <\/em> <\/em>according to Matthew<\/em><\/p>\n

All        <\/em>Glory to you O Lord <\/h2>\n

When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, \u201cBy what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question,\u201d Jesus replied. \u201cDid John\u2019s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human?\u201d<\/p>\n

They talked it over among themselves. \u201cIf we say it was from heaven, he will ask us why we didn\u2019t believe John. But if we say it was merely human, we\u2019ll be mobbed because the people believe John was a prophet.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, they finally replied, \u201cWe don\u2019t know.\u201d And Jesus responded, \u201cThen I won\u2019t tell you by what authority I do these things. \u201cBut what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, \u2018Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.\u2019 The son answered, \u2018No, I won\u2019t go,\u2019 but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, \u2018You go,\u2019 and he said, \u2018Yes, sir, I will.\u2019 But he didn\u2019t go. \u201cWhich of the two obeyed his father?\u201d<\/p>\n

They replied, \u201cThe first.\u201d Then Jesus explained his meaning: \u201cI tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn\u2019t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.<\/p>\n

This is the Gospel of the Lord<\/p>\n
