Gospel <\/u><\/strong>  <\/strong>     John 1.6\u20138, 19\u201328<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John<\/em><\/p>\n

All        <\/em><\/strong>Glory to you O Lord<\/strong>  <\/strong>  <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.<\/p>\n

This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, \u2018Who are you?\u2019 He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, \u2018I am not the Messiah.\u2019 And they asked him, \u2018What then? Are you Elijah?\u2019 He said, \u2018I am not.\u2019 \u2018Are you the prophet?\u2019 He answered, \u2018No.\u2019 Then they said to him, \u2018Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?\u2019 He said,
\n\u2018I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness,
\n\u201cMake straight the way of the Lord\u201d \u2019,
\nas the prophet Isaiah said.<\/p>\n

Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. They asked him, \u2018Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?\u2019 John answered them, \u2018I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.\u2019 This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing.<\/p>\n

This is the Gospel of the Lord<\/p>\n
