When Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, resigned in November 2024, we updated this page with The Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft’s (Bishop of Oxford) reflection on the matter and his introduction to The Archbishop of York’s letter to all members of the church.<\/p>\r\n

Archbishop Stephen has written an Epiphany letter, available to read here.<\/strong><\/a> His letter outlines in detail some initial responses to the difficult events of recent weeks and a look ahead to the coming year. Please do continue to hold all victims and survivors of abuse in your prayers. Continue to pray for Archbishop Justin and his wife, Caroline in the coming days together with Archbishop Stephen and those who will work with him.
Many of us will have been reflecting very deeply on the life and ministry of the Church of England in recent weeks. This reflection will need to continue into the coming year. Please know that Bishop Gavin and I together with our Bishops designate and the whole senior team are ready to listen and support this process. We are very willing to be present in chapter meetings, deanery gatherings and other gatherings in the coming months to listen and be alongside as may be most helpful (and glad of suggestions of how best to facilitate this).
