{"id":17806,"date":"2020-03-15T11:10:41","date_gmt":"2020-03-15T11:10:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ducklingtonchurch.org.uk\/?p=17806"},"modified":"2020-03-15T11:10:59","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T11:10:59","slug":"covid-19-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ducklingtonchurch.org.uk\/?p=17806","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19 (Coronavirus)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should churches do now?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note that \u2018Washing hands\u2019 always refers to washing with \nsoap and water for at least 20 seconds or using a hand-sanitiser with \nminimum 60% alcohol content. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-body\/best-way-to-wash-your-hands\/\">See NHS guidance<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/gpsc\/5may\/resources\/posters\/en\/\">download a poster version<\/a> to display.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ensure <strong>everyone maintains good hygiene<\/strong>\n (we should be doing this already as part of normal good practice) at \nall gatherings, whether services or other occasions. This includes those\n handing out books etc or having other direct physical contact with \nnumbers of people, as well as those administering the Eucharist (see \nbelow for more guidance):\n\n\t<ul><li>Provide hand gel at entrances and ensure \nthere is a good supply of soap or hand gel in cloakrooms and kitchens \nand any other appropriate areas.<\/li><\/ul>\n\t<\/li><li>The best way of protecting us from the spread is for everyone to use <strong>universal good hygiene<\/strong>,\n &#8211; this means everyone, all the time, which will effectively disrupt the\n spread of the virus. Display the public information poster attached, \nwhich states:\n\t<ul><li><strong>Catch it<\/strong> \u2013 sneeze into a tissue.<\/li><li><strong>Bin it<\/strong> \u2013 bin the tissue.<\/li><li><strong>Kill it<\/strong> \u2013 wash your hands.<\/li><li><strong>Do not touch your face<\/strong> unless you\u2019ve washed your hands.<\/li><\/ul>\n\t<\/li><li>The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofengland.org\/media\/19931\">written to clergy<\/a> to <strong>advise that the Common Chalice\/Cup now be suspended until further notice<\/strong>. We advise that all priests should\n\t<ul><li>Offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated bread\/wafer\/host, with the priest alone taking the wine;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\t\tsuspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the Peace;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><\/li><li>suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or &#8220;laying on of hands&#8221; (see <strong>FAQs<\/strong> below for more information on this)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Revd Dr Brendan McCarthy<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What should churches do now?
