A message from Bishop Steven……<\/p>\n

I know that parishes all across the Diocese will be offering daily prayers for lasting peace in the Middle East this weekend, for our Prime Minister and government, our armed forces and for all those affected by the war.  It may be helpful to read and reflect on this letter from the Archbishop of Jerusalem<\/a>.  <\/p>\n

Archbishop Hossan urges the Church throughout the world to offer prayers for peace, to be a source of consolation in time of war and to be bridge builders in our own communities.<\/p>\n

Included in prayer resources on the Church of England website is this profound prayer <\/a>offered by Bishop Guli of Chelmsford:<\/p>\n

Ever-loving God,
\nwho hears us in our anguish and distress,
\nand longs for us to be free.
\nWe pray for the people of Iran and the wider Middle East,
\nat this time of fear and uncertainty.
\nBe near to those who are anxious;
\nbring comfort to all who are suffering.
\nGuide those with the power to make decisions,
\nand lead them in the ways of wisdom, compassion and moderation:
\nthat people of goodwill would seek harmony and reconciliation.
\nJoin us with our Christian brothers and sisters in all places,
\nin praying for peace with justice,
\nthrough him who is the prince of peace,
\nJesus Christ our Lord. <\/em><\/p>\n
