Ducklington Ramblers Walk

Saturday 13th September at 10.00

Our second rambling event will coincide with the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust Ride + Stride event on Saturday 13th September. It is a sponsorship activity; the Historic Churches Trust and St Bartholomew’s Church will benefit from the sponsorship proceeds.

The rambling group will set off from the North Porch side of the church at 10.00. Before we set off, we will share a brief prayer. Sunhats, sun-cream, water and comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Please invite people outside the church to join us; children and dogs on leads are welcome.

Alison and I did a recce walk heading off on the path between the Smith’s gravel pits. The surface was good, and the route pretty sheltered by trees. Our first stop will be at St Mary’s, Cogges. We then walk to the Methodist Church (High Street), and will stop there for refreshments and a brief reflective break. The distance from Ducklington is approximately 5km and shouldn’t take more than 45-50 minutes.

After the Methodist Church there are a number of options, and ramblers can choose what suits them. The official Ride +Stride event is billed for 10.00 and 16.00.

  1. Walk back to Ducklington following the reverse route.
  2. Take the 19 Pulham bus, or the X15 bus, from Market Square back to Ducklington.
  3. Another route would be to walk from the Methodist Church to St Mary’s at Church Green and then back to Ducklington via the Witney Lake pathway.
  4. Andrea and Ade are extending their Ride + Stride experience by visiting other churches in Witney and environs.

Please accept that the church cannot monitor and ensure the safety of ramblers that decide on the walking options from the Methodist Church onwards.

Johan will provide his mobile number for anyone who need any form of assistance on any of the routes; he will be carrying a fully provisioned first aid kit.

Please sponsor this event; we think this is a win-win opportunity for our own wellbeing, and church funds.
