Dave’s career has included time as a journalist, a research tutor in higher education, and an organisational consultant in the UK, India, Hong Kong and parts of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. He has experience working for an international broadcasting organisation, a pan-European satellite educational network, an online news service and a study and research centre focused on international development.

Roger Barnes

Roger became a Churchwarden at the 2017 Annual Parish Meeting.  He is also Tower Captain and Chair of the Fabric Committee. Roger learnt to ring bells at Preston, Lancashire in 1963, and has been ringing at St Bartholomew’s since he arrived in the village in 1990.

In 2011 he succeeded Martin Dines as Tower Captain. As Chair of the Fabric Committee, Roger project managed the West End improvements that included the installation of a toilet and creation of the West-End Gallery. He has been a member of the PCC since 2010.

Gill Long

Gill has been a member of St.Bartholomew’s church for the past 17 years. During this time she has been churchwarden, a school foundation governor, a member of the PCC, a communion server and a sidesperson. She works as a nurse in one of the local GP practices and is part of the Witney Street Pastor team. She enjoys singing, painting and flower arranging.

Sarah Varnom

Sarah moved to Ducklington 13 years ago and became a member of St Bartholomew’s church soon after that. She has sat on the PCC for the four years and recently took on the role of lead for Safeguarding. She has worked in education for over 25 years most recently holding the post of Strategic Lead for Education Quality in Oxfordshire. She works as an Ofsted inspector in the south east of England and is chair of governors at Ducklington Primary School. Her hobbies include making mosaics, gardening, cooking and the theatre. She has been an active member of Faringdon Dramatic Society for over 20 years and relaxes by making preserves for “Mrs V’s Chutneys and Preserves”.

My husband and I moved to Ducklington in 2016 from Winslow in North Buckinghamshire. I am a retired Macmillan Occupational Therapist. In addition to singing with the Brize Singers, I also volunteer at Cogges Manor Farm. We have three young grandchildren.

Edmund has lived in Ducklington parish all his life, the first 47 years in Church Street.  He is a working member of a local farming family; Chairman of Ducklington Parish Council and Chairman of the Village Hall Management Committee.

Edmund has been an active member of St Bartholomew’s Church since the early 1970s, and, Church Warden from 1972 to 2018.  He has the Bishop’s permission to serve the Eucharist since 1989.

In September 2015 he was welcomed in to The Fellowship of St Birinus by The Rt. Rev’d Colin Fletcher, Bishop of Dorchester, for service to God and and the church in Ducklington; for serving as Churchwarden for over 40 years and giving service to the community as Chairman of the Parish Council.

Peter Nichols

Peter has lived in the village since 1968 and has been a member of St Bartholomew’s for all of that time. For the last 32 years of his working life he was a manager in the motor industry. His current position in the church is that of Warden Emeritus and member of the St Birinus Fellowship.

Peter has been a member of the Parish Council as well as Chair of Governors for both Ducklington Primary School and Henry Box Secondary School in Witney.

Mary Thorne

Mary’s role is responsibility for producing and printing the notice sheets for each Sunday and for circulating them electronically to people who have requested to have them sent this way.  She also draws up the rotas for  people who do various duties each Sunday and again  circulates them to the people concerned and also makes sure they are inserted into the Monthly Diary produced by Tricia Hughes.
Mary has  been involved in Church activities for most of her adult life and in her last parish, St Mark’s in  Highcliffe, Dorset, she was leader of the Mothers’ Union Branch for many years progressing to Deanery Co-Ordinator and then was appointed as a MU Diocesan Trustee.  She also served on the P.C.C.,  was Church Warden and was also licenced to administer Holy Communion to those who received Communion in their own home or Care Home because they were unable to get to church for various reasons.

Jane has been an active member of St Bartholomew’s for some years and has enjoyed her roles as Server, Administrator, Treasurer and now Website Manager.  Her aim is to provide as much information about the church as possible, harnessing the power of technology and engaging with as much of the Parish as possible.
