Letter from Rev Andrea Colbrook – November 2023

Dear Friends,

In the church calendar November is set aside as a month of remembering. We take time to remember our loved ones that are no longer with us during our All Souls Service, and we remember those who gave their lives for us during our Remembrance Service.
Remembering is very much part of our Christian culture and something that is modelled throughout the bible. Just as a ship navigates its course with the guidance of the North Star, we, too, are guided through our lives by stories, lessons, and experiences of the past. The act of remembering is an act of reverence, gratitude, and inspiration.
It is as we pause and take time to reflect, to be contemplative, that we find clarity, personal development and gratitude for our lives. We remember God’s love, faithfulness and promises, and as we do, our relationship grows. It is through this relationship that we can find new sources of strength and wisdom for the present.
Like any spiritual practises, taking time to pause and remember, to find space for solitude and stillness, can be difficult, especially when all around us are in an ever-increasing hurry. I would encourage you, as the nights draw in not to be tempted to just switch the television on or surf your social media. Instead, choose to take the time to remember your roots, your values and your journey. For as you do, you will find greater sources of wisdom, meaning and direction. “He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul” Psalm 23 vs 2b and 3a
May you find peace and God’s deep connection this November.
Blessings
Andrea
