The inaugural walking of the Witney Deanery Pilgrimage will begin from St Mary the Virgin, Witney at 12.00 noon on Sunday 12th June and end at the same church with an Evensong at 6.00pm on Sunday 19th June at which Bishop Gavin will preach.
The Pilgrimage will visit all the Church of England churches in the Deanery. The hope is that the Pilgrimage will enhance the unity of the Deanery and also offer a stimulus towards churches becoming more contemplative, in line with one of the aims of the Diocese.
The daily stages will be as follows
Sunday 12th June Witney to Widford via Curbridge, Minster Lovell, Asthall, Swinbrook,
Monday 13th June Widford to Holwell via Fulbrook, Burford, Taynton, Westwell
Tuesday 14th June Holwell to Black Bourton via Filkins, Broughton Poggs, Langford, Little Faringdon, Kelmscott, Broadwell, Kencot, Alvescot
Wednesday 15th June Black Bourton to Bampton Via Carterton, Shilton, Brize Norton, Lew
Thursday 16th June Bampton to Aston via Clanfield
Friday 17th June Aston to Standlake via Shifford, Yelford
Saturday 18th June Standlake to North Leigh via Northmoor, Stanton Harcourt, South Leigh
Sunday 19th June North Leigh to Witney via Hailey, Witney Holy Trinity, Cogges, Ducklington
Walking will begin each day 9.30am; except on the two Sundays when it will begin at 12 noon.
People are invited to join the pilgrimage for as much time as they wish. It is anticipated that there will be a small core group walking the whole route and that at least some overnight accommodation will be provided by churches.
