Dementia is a “Long Goodbye”

Alzheimer’s Research UK have recently estimated that in Witney there is an estimated total number of 1,369 persons living with dementia (1.41% of the population). The 2011 Census states there are 1,581persons resident in Ducklington; it’s possible that there are about 22 persons in our village that live with dementia.
Dementia affects not only those who live with the disease but also those with whom they live, extended family and friends.  The Ducklington Warm Welcome initiative in the Village Hall
welcomes those living with dementia and their carers to meet with fellow villagers on a Thursday (11.30-15.00). We are pleased to say that all the Warm Welcome volunteers have successfully undertaken Alzheimer’s Society training, and are proud to call themselves Dementia Friends.
The Warm Welcome Space has been offering a warm environment, hospitality, fellowship, hot drinks, cakes and a simple midday meal since November 2022. We are able to offer this service at no cost to those attending.
