Letter from Roy (LLM), and Jenny Tarbox

For many years, as our children have grown up and gradually left home, we have been fortunate to enjoy a family holiday in a tiny, peaceful, unspoilt corner of Mallorca.
Yes really!   Forget noisy bars, discos and badly behaved tourists, giving this beautiful, mountainous island a bad name.
Recently Jenny and I returned once more.
At early morning and sunset, all that could be heard was the sea gently lapping on the shore outside our room and twittering sparrows in the bushes beneath our balcony.
Cut off from the busyness of daily life the words of Psalm 46:10 spring to mind, “Be still and know that I am God” .
Years ago our holidays were filled with exploring, trekking and cycling. Now in our later years, there is more time to enjoy God’s creation. Whether on our balcony, or sitting in the magnificent Palma Cathedral, surrounded by hundreds of awe-inspired tourists.
A building soaked in prayer, praise and worship over many centuries giving the opportunity to be still, talk to God, times of contemplation, and most importantly, to listen to him.
Where is your quiet place ” To be still and know that I am God”?  The bath, the garden shed, or the seat by the village pond?
As we celebrate the season of Pentecost, and the coming of the Holy Spirit to those first disciples, let us step aside from the busyness of life.
It is an opportunity to take time to be still to seek a deeper relationship with our God through His life-giving Holy Spirit.
How about joining our evening services in June for a time of reflection and contemplation.
An opportunity to step aside, refocus, connect with God afresh, alongside members of our church family.
