A Season of Change
Autumn arrives almost unnoticed. A coolness enters the morning air, the evenings draw in, and trees begin to glow with gold, copper and red. Soon, leaves that once seemed firmly fixed will loosen and fall. The season reminds us that change is not an interruption to life; it is part of its rhythm.
This autumn may bring changes for each of us. Children begin new school years, families adjust to different routines, and work or health may place fresh demands upon us. Changes in our church and community can also feel unsettling. Even welcome developments ask us to leave something familiar behind, and we may wonder whether we have the energy or confidence to adapt.
Faith does not promise that everything will remain the same. Instead, it assures us that God remains faithful through every season. Scripture is filled with people called to step into the unknown: Moses leading a people forward, the disciples leaving their nets, St Paul’s life-transforming experience on the way to Damascus. They did not always know what lay ahead, but they learned to trust the One who went with them.  Autumn also shows us how to adapt with grace. Trees do not cling to every leaf; they let go and conserve their strength for what comes next. We, too, may need to release old expectations, make room for new ways of doing things, or accept help when circumstances change. Adaptation is not failure. It can be an act of courage, wisdom and hope.  As a church family, we can face change together. A phone call, a shared meal, a lift, a prayer or a listening ear may make an uncertain season easier for someone else. Watch and notice those who are carrying change quietly, and be willing both to offer support and to receive it.  As the leaves turn and the light changes, may we remember that God is present in every beginning and every ending. Whatever this season brings, may we meet it with open hands, steady hearts and confidence that new adventures are already being prepared
